It takes half your life before you discover life is a do-it-yourself project.”
~Napoleon Hill

I have never been much of a DIY kind of girl... I would much rather trot (Yes, sometimes I "trot") into a building with a B on it (Barney's, Bloomies, Bergdorf's, Bendel's...) and buy whatever it is I want/need/desire. Sometimes I do have a vision of something I would like to make reality but the only time I'm artistic is when I have a makeup brush in my hand. When it comes to the art of makeup I'm Picasso (Yes, I do say so myself) but other than that...no. Not even a little bit.

Lauren Tennenbaum of InDecorous Taste however is BRILLIANT at DIY projects. I actually feel like I'm belittling the art she creates by even calling them DIY projects. Her latest shoe creation has me salivating... These shoes are BEYOND... Her use of harnesses, studs and crystals... I'm speechless.

"Fendi strongly believes that creativity and the flow of ideas are the Fuel for the Future. Forever.”-Silvia Venturini Fendi/Fendi Accesories Creative Director

"Fatto a Mano" is Italian for "hand crafted". A lovely way to say 'DIY". Italian fashion house Fendi's new Baguette Mezzo Punto (Mezzo Punto is Italian for "half stitch") is a "concept" bag. It's basically a semi-DIYproject. The plain canvas baguette comes in a box with needle, thread and diagrams to custom sew the logo or whatever design you wish. I have mixed feelings about this concept... $995 is alot of money to spend on a bag you have to finish yourself, especially if you make a mistake. People that enjoy and excel at this sort of thing however will most likely think this is a genius idea. I personally will stick to buying bags already fabulous. For those interested in the Baguette Punto Mezzo, the do-it-yourself kit goes on sale Nov 30th at
Limited Edition Experiences in Miami and will be available in Fendi boutiques nationwide this spring.

~ Just like a ghost, you've been a-hauntin' my dreams, So I'll propose... on Halloween. Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little girl like you. ~Dennis Yost and the Classics IV

I think I'm actually a bigger fan of Halloween as an adult than I was as a child. I've come to see it as a night without limits. No makeup is too outrageous. No outfit is too outlandish. All bets are off, bring on the drama. Although truth be told, I would much rather create a fabulous Halloween look for someone other than myself. I like to watch and observe. Halloween is the best live theater, the ultimate reality show... This year I'm in a "I wanna make Halloween glamorous" mood... Maybe even a "I wanna make Halloween sexy" mood. I set out to find some inspiration and I found it. Now I'll it share it with all of you...

Just a few things to spice up your Halloween:

Bejeweled Pumpkins...

Jeweler Eddie Borgo has designed a FABULOUS jeweled pumpkin...and he's showing you how to make one also... He made his first dazzling pumpkin last year when he needed a gift for a friend throwing a downtown soiree and made a gorgeous pumpkin to be used as a table centerpiece. The response was overwhelming. This year he's sharing his technique with you. I am obsessed with these pumpkins, almost enough to try this DIY project..

Supplies:

Pumpkin
Carving knife and spoon
Jewelry studs (Borgo recommends studsandspikes.com or M&J Trimming)
Krylon matte black spray paint

1. Pick your pumpkin at the local market. Borgo likes his medium-size, symmetrical, and round.
2. Empty out the seeds and pulp and begin to carve the face.
3. Try to accentuate the cutout shapes by studding around them, pushing the spikes into the shell of the pumpkin. Borgo likes to start with the eyes, followed by the nose; the mouth comes last.
4. After the face is completely studded, use Krylon matte black spray paint over the whole pumpkin to make it deep, deep black.

If your like me and not always a fan of the DIY projects, no biggie...Borgo can custom-make you one! eddieborgo.com

Another way to spice up Halloween? Halloween inspired under garments and lingerie...

~Light Up Baby...LED Eyelashes~

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” -Arthur C. Clarke

Remember all the fuss about La Lopez's red MINK false eyelashes a few years back? I have to admit I drooled a lil bit at the sight of them. So gorgeous. Well, J Lo may need to step up her game...

Artist Soomi Park has invented "LED eyelashes".

Soomi attached the lashes to a tilt sensor that is housed by headphones. The lashes light up with movement, kind of like those sneakers that light up when kids walk or move their foot. The headset can be gently affixed to the face very easily with spirit gum and apparently this ia a very easy DIY project, which is cool because any color LED you desire or even a multiply color LED can be used.

As cool as it is, I don't see this being a trend that translate easily into everyday life. They may possibly be a hot accessory for a night at the club... Other than that I do see them as a fabulous addition to a runway show and a great way to liven up a fashion editorial.

I have to admit though, these lashes are beyond cool...

Take a look at one more pic and watch Soomi's interesting video.
