Day 14:

Well, this is the final day of my "Valentine's Day Countdown"...meaning...it's VALENTINE'S DAY!! My FAVORITE holiday!! I am one happy, sappy Glamour Whore right now.

For my final day of suggestions and Valentine themed posts I'm sure you are expecting something ridiculously extravagant...a private island, a pink Rolls Royce, a gigantic heart shaped diamond (even I wouldn't rock a heart shaped diamond...gag), a trip to Paris, etc. Nope. Although... a private island would be a fabulous gift...really fabulous. But....no. For my final Valentine's Day post I have chosen to share what would be my ideal Valentine's Day gift, and it may surprise you.

Ready? Ok...

For me, the greatest gesture of love and romance on my favorite holiday would simply be a HAND WRITTEN love note and a single Lily when I awake...that's it. Not even a Hallmark card. Nope, no store bought declarations of love. I want someone to take a pen to paper and tell me they love me and leave the note on the bed for me to find when I rise...accompanied my favorite flower, the seductively fragrant Lily. There is something so touching to me about hand written love letters/notes, a forgotten gesture in the Internet era we are presently living in.

The passionate love affair between Anais Nin and Henry Miller is infamous and sometimes I find myself reading their letters to each other, even though I am not sure how I feel about them being published and public. As I read Henry's letters to Anais I think to myself "That is a man passionately and completely in love".

I know it maybe difficult for some people to put their feelings and thought into words. Very difficult. To those people I say...plagiarize. Hear me out. It's not as bad as it sounds. What I mean is, for those men and women that find it difficult to communicate the thoughts of their heart and mind it won't take away from the gesture if you find a poem or writings of a great author that convey your feelings and you write them out as a gesture of your love. Just make sure to give credit where credit is due... If I awoke on Valentine's Day to find words like this hand written on a note I would consider it the greatest gift I ever received...

Henry on March 10, 1932, after they had become lovers:
"You make me tremendously happy to hold me undivided - to let me be the artist, as it were, and yet not forgo the man, the animal, the hungry, insatiable lover. No woman has ever granted me all the privileges I need - and you, why you sing out so blithely, so boldly, with a laugh even - yes, you invite me to go ahead, be myself, venture anything. I adore you for that. That is where you are truly regal, a woman extraordinary. What a woman you are! I laugh to myself now when I think of you. I have no fear of your femaleness."

Anais to Henry:

Anais on March 26, 1932:
"This is strange, Henry. Before, as soon as I came home from all sorts of places I would sit down and write in my journal. Now I want to write you, talk with you...
I love when you say all that happens is good, it is good. I say all that happens is wonderful. For me it is all symphonic., and I am so aroused by living - God, Henry, in you alone I have found the same swelling of enthusiasm, the same quick rising of the blood, the fullness...
Before, I almost used to think there was something wrong. Everybody else seemed to have the brakes on... I never feel the brakes. I overflow. And when I feel your excitement about life flaring, next to mine, then it makes me dizzy."

Wow. *Sigh*. So amazingly romantic...

However, if that is not your style a simple heartfelt and honest "I Love You" will do.

And don't forget my Lily...xoxo
