“Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit.”
-Jawaharlal Nehru

If ever there was a time to expose yourself to a little bit of culture, the time is now. Rather then learning more about fashion icon Alexander McQueen on your laptop, take a trip to The Metropolitian Museum Of Art to see a new exhibit entitled "Savage Beauty" or read the book about his trend setting career of the same title. A trip to a museum is a refreshing break from the norm and reading...well...it's fundamental. Step away from iPad people...

The Metropolitian Museum Of Art presents:
Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty
May 4, 2011–July 31, 2011
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Exhibition Hall, 2nd floor

And the book...

Alexander McQueen "Savage Beauty" ($27.00):

A description from the Barnes and Noble site:
Synopsis:
Alexander McQueen (1969-2010) was one of the most influential, imaginative, and inspirational designers at the turn of the millennium. His fashions both challenged and expanded the conventional parameters of clothing beyond utility to a compelling expression of culture, politics, and identity. Focusing on the most iconic and acclaimed designs of his prolific career, this stunning book examines McQueen's inimitable technical virtuosity and its subversion of traditional tailoring and dressmaking practices.

The book also focuses on the highly sophisticated narrative structures found in McQueen's collections and in his astonishing and extravagant runway presentations, which suggested the most avant-garde installation and performance art. Intended as an assessment of Alexander McQueen's entire career, the book includes in-depth studies of six collections that illustrate and encapsulate thematic chapters as well as an interview with Sarah Burton, the new creative director of Alexander McQueen who had been the designer's right-hand design aide since 1996.

Biography:
Andrew Bolton is Curator and Harold Koda is Curator in Charge at The Costume Institute, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Tim Blanks is contributing editor of Style.com and Susannah Frankel is fashion editor of The Independent newspaper.

"Out with the cold, in with the woo." ~E. Marshall, "Spring Thought"

It's rare that a collection comes out and I want every single piece. There have been collections that I loved MOST of it but never EVERY SINGLE PIECE. Until now... I literally want EVERY SINGLE PIECE of Alexander McQueen's Spring 2011 collection. All of it. The clothes, the shoes, the accessories...ALL OF IT. Just pure unadulterated perfection... *sigh*

It is the difference between men and women, not the sameness, that creates the tension and the delight." -Edward Abbey

Lately I've noticed that more and more men are proudly embracing their inner shoe whore... And I like it. I like it alot. It's refreshing not getting the rolling of the eyes when telling a male friend of my latest shoe acquisition so I decided to encourage this movement by involving the fellas in my "shoegasm" posts. Enjoy fellas... Just don't let your collection get bigger than mine. I have to have the most!!

For Him: The Louis Vuitton Acapulco Sneakers Spring/Summer 2011

Awhile back I had stated in
another post that I didn't like the idea of couture designers designing sneakers. I just felt like sneakers were something that should be left to the companies that purely focus on sneakers. Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc... However, the Louis Vuitton Acapulco Sneakers are just too damn sexy... They remind me of a couture Nike AF1, basically the epitome of the "where the hood and high fashion meet" vibe I love so much...

For Her:
The Alexander McQueen Tribute Feather Pumps w/ Gold Brocade Heel

Since the passing of legendary genius designer Lee "Alexander" McQueen there have been many tributes to him done in various ways. They were all creative and heartfelt but this one stands out to me because it's the one that I think he would have loved and appreciated most... What could be a better way to honor a designer than with a brilliant design? Kelly, the designer behind the Alafemme shop on Etsy designed these amazing heels to pay homage McQueen and is hoping to eventually launch a charity/foundation in his honor. A beyond gorgeous shoe and a beautiful sentiment...gotta love it. Art plus heart...awesome. Purchase HERE
